SmartStart EVO-ONE Hookup

0 votes
I'm testing a StartSmart to my EVO-ONE but I'm having trouble with the "Program your remote" step.  I can actually hear the SmartStart buzz when it receives the lock command but the remote programming fails (parking lights don't flash).

I followed the EVO-ONE + SmartStart instructions and modified a Datalink cable to fit (and grounded the grey wire).  I noticed this is the only RF kit that plugs into the black Datalink port of the EVO-ONE, not the small blue port.  Is this correct?

Problem solved.  It looks like your EVO-ONE SmartStart RF kit guide is in error.  If you modify a Fortin harness then you are left with a black plug that goes into the black datalink port of the EVO-ONE (it's the only jack that will fit).

So I took a connector from my FT-D100 data cable, plugged it into the small blue jack on the EVO-ONE, and bingo, the SmartStart worked perfectly...

The picture in the guide i feel is not clear enough. You need a microscope to see that you need the end with the clip on it. Technically, you do not even need to modify the harness. The guide only shows cutting the rest of the harness off.

Yes I wasn't paying attention -- the Fortin cable has a different sized plug on each end.  Thanks! blush

No problem! Keep in mind, it will leave you with only about 4 inches of cable. You may need to extend it in some/many cases. We were looking into making a harness specific for this use (evo-one + smartstart) but i think that project was put on hold.
